What TLDR Money does
TLDR Money is an expense tracker for India that you can type or talk to. You log what you spend in a sentence, ask questions about your own spending, and set budgets that warn you before you run over. Here is every feature, how it works, and which plan it is on.
The short version. Manual entry, budgets, alerts and recurring entries are free and unlimited. Voice and chat entry, Ask and your full history are where Pro comes in. Every new account starts with 30 days of Pro, and nothing you log is ever deleted when a plan ends. Prices and the full comparison.
Manual entry
Amount, merchant, category, save. It is unlimited and free on every plan, and nothing in the app ever stops you from logging a transaction — not a monthly limit, not a paywall, not an expired trial.
Voice entry
Hold the microphone and say it: “four hundred on groceries yesterday”. The app turns what you said into text, pulls out the amount, the merchant and the category, and opens a confirm card with every field editable.
- The confirm card appears on every voice entry. There is no fast path that skips it, because “fifteen” and “fifty” sound alike and a wrong amount is worse than a missing one.
- The recording is deleted straight after transcription. Only the transaction you confirm is kept.
- One thing you say is one entry, however many purchases it mentions. “Four hundred on groceries and sixty for the auto” counts once against the free plan’s monthly allowance.
Chat entry
Type a sentence and the app creates the transactions. “₹250 auto and ₹180 chai” becomes two entries, each categorised and dated.
- A review sheet opens before anything saves: one editable row per transaction, a running total, and a delete button on each row. Nothing is written until you confirm.
- Dates are read the way you say them. “Yesterday”, “last Friday” and “on the 3rd” are worked out in your time zone, and anything without a date is today.
- Amounts are in your account’s currency, whatever symbol you type.
- A half-readable message still counts. If three purchases are clear and a fourth is not, you get the three to review and the fourth to fill in, rather than an error.
- Chat entry and Ask are two separate boxes. A question like “did I spend ₹200 on dinner?” is never logged as a purchase, because nothing has to guess which box you meant.
Voice and chat share one counter: 30 entries a month on the free plan, unlimited on Pro.
Ask
Ask answers questions about your own spending — “how much did I spend on food last month?”, “what did I spend on travel in August?” — from your own ledger.
How the answer is made matters more than the answer. A model asked to add up two hundred transactions will get it wrong, confidently. So the model never sees your transactions. It sees your question, your category names and your currency, and turns the question into a query. The app runs that query against your ledger and computes the number itself, and the sentence you read is filled in from a template. The model never writes a figure.
- Every answer shows its working. Under the number is a row such as “Food & Dining · 1–30 Sep · 23 transactions”, and tapping it opens exactly those transactions.
- It reports, it never advises. Ask will not tell you what to cut, whether you can afford something, or whether you are saving enough. It answers those with one fixed line: “Ask can tell you what you’ve spent. It doesn’t give financial advice.”
- It answers over the history your plan shows. On the free plan that is this month and last month. Ask about an older month and it says so in the same answer, then gives you the figure for the months you can see. It never quietly swaps in a different period.
- Each question stands alone, and Ask is read-only: it never creates, edits or deletes anything.
The free plan includes 5 Ask questions a month, counted separately from voice and chat entries. Pro is unlimited.
Budgets, alerts and recurring entries
Set a monthly budget for any category and watch its progress through the month. You get an alert at 80% and another at 100%. Rent, SIPs, subscriptions and anything else that repeats can be set as recurring, and the app logs them on schedule. All of this is free and unlimited on both plans.
History
The free plan shows this month and last month. Pro shows everything you have ever logged.
Nothing older is deleted. It stays stored, hidden from view, and comes back the moment you subscribe — the app says exactly that: “Your older data is safe. Upgrade to see it.” Trends cover whatever history your plan shows, and the full data download in Settings always covers everything, on either plan.
The recap card
One tap from the stats screen turns a month into an image you can share: total spent, income, savings rate, and where the money went, ranked by category. It is free for any month or year. Pro adds any custom date range.
A shared ledger, one subscription for two people
Pro lets you invite one partner into a shared ledger, and the person you invite gets full Pro on your subscription — their own personal ledger included.
- It is a separate space, not a merge of your two personal ledgers. You both add and edit, and every entry shows who put it there.
- One partner, not a list. Once someone has joined, the slot can be moved to a different person after 90 days. An invitation that is not accepted expires after 7 days.
- You both use the same currency.
- If the subscription lapses, you both move to the free plan together. Nothing is deleted, your partner is told directly rather than through you, and their full data download keeps working.
- It is a shared record, not a referee. There is no splitting, no settle-up and no working out who owes whom.
Export
A full download of everything you have logged sits in Settings, on every plan — one button, all of it, including any history your plan currently hides. That is what makes the history limit fair rather than a hostage situation. Pro adds formatted exports: a CSV and a PDF report, by date range and grouped by category.
No ads, on any plan
There are no ads in the free plan and none in Pro, and that is not a launch promotion. The app is paid for by the Pro subscription and nothing else. How we make money.
What it does not do
- It does not connect to your bank, read your SMS, or read your mail.
- It does not scan receipts or track more than one currency.
- It does not give financial advice, recommend products, or earn a commission on anything.
Coming to India
Four features are planned for India and are not in the app today:
- Automatic tracking from your Gmail — reading the transaction alerts your bank already emails you.
- Net worth — everything you own and owe, as one figure.
- A FIRE projection — the year your savings could cover your spending.
- Mutual fund import from your CAS statement.
Gmail access depends on Google’s independent security assessment of the app, so there is no date for any of them yet. A small private beta already uses Gmail tracking. Until the rest arrives, the net worth calculator and the retirement planner on this site are free and need no sign-up.
