Couples budget app: track shared spending, keep yours private

TLDR Classic lets two people keep one shared ledger, called Ours, while each keeps a private one, called Mine. You both add entries from your own phone, on Android or iPhone, and every entry shows who added it. It needs Pro on one account, and that Pro covers your partner too.

TLDR Classic on Android, Home in Ours: ₹11,590 spent from Oct 15 to Nov 14, a bar for each category, and Riya’s DMart entry of ₹2,340 under Recent
Ours on Android: the month the two of you share, on its own start day, with who added each entry.

How it works

  1. One of you sends an invite. With Pro, open Settings › Shared ledger › Ours › Invite a partner and share the code. It is 8 characters, works once and lasts 7 days.
  2. The other joins with the code. Open Settings › Shared ledger › Ours › Join a partner’s ledger, type the code, tap Continue, then Join. A code made on an iPhone works on Android, and the other way round.
  3. Switch between Mine and Ours on Home. Whatever you write goes into the ledger on screen, so a dinner out goes in Ours and your own lunch stays in Mine.
  4. See who added what. Each entry in Ours names who added it, and Activity can show both of you, just you or just your partner.

Private by default, shared on purpose

Mine is yours alone. Your partner never sees it, and nothing in it is shared unless you put it in Ours. Ours is a separate ledger, not your two ledgers merged, so it has its own budgets, categories, repeating entries and lists, and its own month start day. When it is created it copies the categories of the person who started it, as a starting point.

Ours tracks spending only, so each person’s salary stays their own. Income written while Ours is on screen is kept out of its figures, and when both ledgers use the same currency it is saved to Mine instead, with a note saying so.

See who added what, and ask about it

Every entry in Ours names who added it, as You or your partner’s name, and opening one shows who added or last edited it. Activity in Ours can show both of you, just you, or just your partner. Ask works in Ours too: a question like “who spent more on food this month?” gets an answer counted from your entries by the app, never by the AI.

TLDR Classic’s Activity screen in Ours, the shared ledger: Uber, Swiggy, Ola, Blinkit, Zomato and Petrol, each with its category and amount and marked You or Riya, grouped by day with each day’s total
Activity in Ours on iPhone: each entry is marked You or with your partner’s name.

On iPhone, you can get a quiet note when your partner adds entries, at most one an hour. Android doesn’t send these notes.

What it costs

Ours is part of Pro: ₹399 a month or ₹2,999 a year in India. Only the person who starts Ours needs Pro, and it covers the partner fully, including their own Mine. Every new account gets Pro free for 30 days, no card needed. Pro also adds logging UPI payments from a screenshot, which works in Ours when it is in rupees.

Outside India, the budget app for couples page covers the same shared ledger in any currency.

Questions worth asking

How can a couple track shared expenses in one app?

In TLDR Classic, one of you starts a shared ledger called Ours and invites the other with a code. You both add entries from your own phones, each entry shows who added it, and each of you keeps a private ledger, Mine, for your own spending.

Can my partner see my personal expenses?

No. Your own entries stay in Mine, which only you can see. Your partner sees only what is in Ours.

Do both of us need to pay for Pro?

No. Only the person who starts Ours needs Pro, and it covers the partner fully, including their own Mine. Every new account also gets Pro free for its first 30 days.

Does it split bills or settle up?

No. TLDR Classic doesn’t split bills, keep balances of who owes whom, or settle up. Ours records what the two of you spend, and who added each entry.

Can we share a ledger if one of us uses iPhone and the other Android?

Yes. Ours works between iPhone and Android, and an invite code made on one works on the other.

What happens to our shared ledger if Pro ends?

Nothing is deleted. You both move to the free plan together, Ours becomes read-only until Pro is back, and each of you can keep writing in Mine.

Can I share a ledger with more than one person?

No. Ours is for two people: the person who starts it and one partner.

Start a ledger for the two of you

Every new account starts with 30 days of Pro, no card needed, so you can set up Ours today. On Android now. The iPhone app is in Apple’s review.

How we use this

This describes how TLDR Classic’s shared ledger works as of October 2026. It records what you spend; it doesn’t split bills, and it is not advice about your money.
